Legal Assistant - Estates

Stratford or Listowel Office

Are you a legal assistant or recent graduate of a legal assistant program with an interest in Estates Law?

To support firm and client success, you will:

  • Work closely with lawyers and Estate Trustees regarding estate files;

  • Attend client meetings, take instructions and participate in discussions regarding the estate administration;

  • Sort documentation provided by Estate Trustees and make enquiries regarding estate assets;

  • Prepare written correspondence and liaise with Estate Trustees, Beneficiaries, Government Bodies, Accountants and Financial Institutions about ongoing Estate Administration matters;

  • Prepare all estate-related documentation, including when applicable court documents for Applications for Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee With A Will and/or Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee Without a Will and Estate Information Returns;

  • Assist with estate account banking;

  • Prepare and document all estate account transactions;

  • Assist Estate Trustees with all estate-related documentation to redeem assets; and

  • Assist Estate Trustees with all other matters incidental to assisting them with the administration of the estate.


To be the successful candidate you will have:

  • Have experience as a legal assistant or have recently graduated from a Legal Assistant course;

  • Strong interest to learn estates law;

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; editing, reviewing, drafting and proofreading of legal documents; 

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn technology easily;

  • An interest in taking your law career to the next level and support the success of an established, successful and dynamic law practice;

  • Strong organizational and time management and ability to take on accountability for deadlines and client service;

  • An independent worker, resourceful, reliable, professional, a multi-tasker, and a team player.

  • Experience with Ghost Practice and/or Estate-a-base is an asset.
